The new year has arrived and there are plenty of horror movies releasing the coming twelve months. I am pretty excited, if I am telling the truth. Here are a few releases I am really looking forward to!
A Quiet Place Day One
Release date: June 28th
The plot of this particular movie is still under wraps, and we don’t know a whole lot yet. It is supposed to be a prequal to the first movie, so I am really curious!
But since the first movie was really good, I have high hopes for this one! We will see about it when the time comes for its release.
Witchboard
Release date: Unknown
A re-imagining of the 1986 Horror Classic. I have not seen the original yet, but am definitely planning to watch it before this one comes out!
Have you seen the original yet?
Thread: An Insidious Tale
Release date: Unknown
A husband and wife who enlist the help of a spell to travel back in time, such that they can prevent the death of their young daughter. The consequences, of course, prove to be severe.
Another instalment of the Insidious franchise!
The Watchers
Release date: June 7th
Follows Mina, a 28-year-old artist, as she gets stranded in an extensive, immaculate forest in western Ireland. After finding shelter, she becomes trapped alongside three strangers, stalked by mysterious creatures each night.
The plot sounds really interesting! I hope the movie is going to be as good as the summary makes it sound to be!
The Strangers, Chapter one
Release date: May 17th
A young couple drive cross-country toward a new beginning; unfortunately they have no choice but to stop in a secluded Airbnb in Oregon–and endure a night of terror against three masked strangers.
The first movie was pretty interesting, even though I didn’t think it was the best home invasion I ever watched. I hope that this instalment will be just as entertaining!
The First Omen
Release date: April 5th
A young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, but encounters a darkness that causes her to question her faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate.
Can it beat the original? Probably not. But I am still pretty excited for it!
Terrifier 3
Release date: April 5th
Art the Clown is set to unleash chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they peacefully drift off to sleep on Christmas Eve.
Definitely in my top 7 of most anticipated movies in 2024. Together with Saw XI, Final Destination 6, Smile 3, Imaginary, Night Swim and Maxxxine!
Stream
Release date: Unknown
Roy and Elaine Keenan find themselves separated from their family and decide that something must be done. Roy puts his work on the back burner and the two seize the opportunity to relive past vacations.
Not entirely sure what to think of this specific movie, but I can’t deny that I am curious!
Speak no Evil
Release date: August 9th
Remake of Speak No Evil (2022). A family invited to spend a weekend in an idyllic country house, go from a dream vacation to a psychological nightmare.
Another remake of which I have not yet seen the original. I really should go on a watching spree of these before they get released!
Smile 2
Release date: October 18th
The sequel to Smile is finally announced and I am really excited for it! This movie really gave me the creeps, and some of the jump scares are still with me to this day. It really had a few good ones!
The plot is still under wraps, for as far as we know. So I am very curious how they will develop this story any further!
SAW XI
Release date: September 27th
To say I am excited for this newest instalment of Saw is an understatement. It’s my favourite horror franchise of all time! I was already incredibly spoiled with SAW X in 2023. Just imagine my absolute glee when SAX XI was announced for September this year!
Definitely my most anticipated movie of 2024! I can’t wait to see this in the cinemas.
Nosferatu
Release date: December 25th
A gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.
Another remake of a classic! Very curious how they are going to adapt this classis tale into a more modern vibe. Or maybe they will keep the gothic vibe overall? Whatever they are going to do, I am excited for it!
Night Swim
Release date: January 5th
A woman swimming in her pool at night is terrorized by an evil spirit.
The plot sounds very simple, but in my experience it usually are the simple stories that are absolutely amazing. The trailer of this one also really caught my interest. Once it hit the cinemas, I am definitely going to watch it!
MAXXXINE
Release date: Unknown
Follows Maxine, who was the only survivor of the bloody incidents of X, as she continues her journey towards fame to be an actress in 1980s Los Angeles.
Both X and Pearl were so incredibly good, I am hoping that this third instalment will be just as amazing!
Imaginary
Release date: March 8th
A woman returns to her childhood home to discover that the imaginary friend she left behind is very real and unhappy that she abandoned him.
Another one of which the trailer -or actually teaser- looked incredibly good! I was not sure what to think of it when it was first announced, but after that teaser? I really want to see it!
Alien Romulus
Release date: August 16th
Young people from a distant world must face the most terrifying life form in the universe.
I am both excited and nervous for this one. It touches upon an incredible franchise; Aliens. But I sincerely hope that it is going to do it justice!
So many movies releasing the coming year, and I keep discovering more! It seems like it is going to be a great horror year and that we will be incredibly spoiled in 2024. What movies are you looking forward to?
